Happy Spring Equinox: March 2019
May we all find balance in our minds, bodies and souls as we welcome Spring! I hope you spent some time outside on the night of the Spring Equinox to experience the last Super Moon of 2019. It’s a perfect time to align your yoga practice with the moon. Have you ever practiced Moon Salutations? If not, here’s one of my favorite beginner’s video on practicing Moon Salutations / Chandra Namaskar:
Summer Solstice 2018: Summer time, Yoga time
Summer Solstice marks the onset of summer and the longest day of the year. Here are a few ways yogis can celebrate this day:
1. Practice yoga outside: Sun Salutations can be performed for a certain number of rounds or minutes. Try practicing Surya Namaskar :A
Tadasana (Mountain Pose) with Anjali Mudra (hands folding in prayer at the heart)
Inhale- Urdhva Namaskarasana (Upward Salute)
Exhale- Uttanasana (Standing Forward Bend)
Inhale- Ardha Uttanasana (Half Standing Forward Bend/Half Lift)
Exhale- Chaturanga Dandasana (Four-Limbed Staff Pose)
Inhale- Urdhva Mukha Svanasana (Upward-Facing Dog) or Bhujangasana (Cobra)
Exhale- Adho Mukha Svanasan (Downward-Facing Dog)
Inhale- Ardha Uttanasana (Half Standing Forward Bend/Half Lift)
Exhale- Uttanasana (Standing Forward Bend)
Inhale- Urdhva Hastasana (Upward Hands) / Urdhva Namaskarasana (Upward Salute)
Exhale- Tadasana (Mountain Pose) with Anjali Mudra (hands folding in prayer at the heart)
2. Nature Meditations: This is a perfect day to meditate in nature.
Try a walking meditation or sit in nature while breathing with awareness and observing the sounds, sights and smells of nature.
3. Summertime Shine List: Make your summer "to-do" list of fun places, events and things you want to accomplish this summer.
Explore your city via walking trails, take a new yoga class (i.e. Align + Wine Yoga), try a new flavor of ice cream, etc.
